Leland, MS – The Leland Chamber of Commerce today announced plans for the 50th Anniversary Celebration of Christmas on Deer Creek. The event is sporting a new logo and will include many new components this year.
“Christmas on Deer Creek is an honored tradition throughout the State,” says Melia Christensen, Executive Director of the Leland Chamber of Commerce. “We’re proud to be in our 50th year, and we plan to celebrate big this year.”
The celebration will include three weekends of events, starting with the traditional opening night celebration on Saturday, December 6. New highlights include a holiday shopping event, a tour of homes, a night of carriage rides and caroling and a commemorative postmark event.
“We’re especially excited to re-invigorate the downtown with new shops on December 13,” says Christensen. “The idea to host pop-up shops in our vacant storefronts has been very well-received, and we already have several commitments from businesses that want to open up shop in Leland for the day.”
The Leland Deer Creek Garden Club will host a holiday tour of homes. Tickets will include lunch at a participating local restaurant.
The Chamber is also planning to decorate downtown store windows with the help of the Delta Artists Association and other local volunteers. “When you come through Leland this December, there will be no mistaking it’s Christmas,” says Christensen. “The holiday spirit will be everywhere!”
