Leland Chamber to Host Public Meeting
When: Thursday, November 20, 6:00pm
Where: Morlino Community Center, 4168 Old Hwy 61, Leland
Why: To Reveal plans for a new community park space
The Leland Chamber of Commerce has been working with the City of Leland to create plans for a new public park space, along the banks of Deer Creek adjacent to the Henson Museum. On November 20 the project design team from Mississippi State University and renowned Landscape Architect Robert Poore will be in Leland to reveal the new plans. Members of the Leland community and the surrounding area are encouraged to attend.
The planning for this park has been made possible through a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, awarded to Leland in 2013. The project began in early 2014 with a series of meetings to gather input from the public. The project team collected input from a broad section of the community, including comments from regional leaders and from school-age children in Leland, and then used that input to create a list of features the space needed to include.
“This park is an amazing opportunity for Leland to create a new community space that can have a major impact on the quality of life here,” says Melia Christensen, Executive Director of the Leland Chamber. “We heard from so many people last spring who have dreams of what Leland can become, and we have tried to incorporate all of that into this plan. I think when everyone sees the plans in store for Leland they will be absolutely amazed, and once this project is complete it will be seen as a major asset not only to Leland but to the whole region.”
