LELAND TO HOLD COMMUNITY-WIDE CLEANUP EVENT

Mitchell Distributing, the Leland Chamber of Commerce and the City of Leland are teaming up to host a community-wide cleanup event on Wednesday, June 8 from noon to 6pm. The event was prompted by a desire to participate in World Environment Day, an annual event that takes place on June 5 encouraging communities to take positive action to protect nature.

Tents will be setup in front of the Jim Henson Exhibit on Hwy 82, where volunteers can check in, receive assignments and gather supplies. Volunteers are asked to spend at least one hour, and will be assigned an area of Leland to comb for litter and other debris. Mitchell will provide food, drinks and t-shirts to volunteers participating in the event. Leland has reached out to the Keep Greenville Beautiful Chapter, which will also be contributing supplies.

World Environment Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972. Mitchell Distributing is a beer distributorship serving 32 Mississippi counties and employing nearly 200 people statewide. The Leland facility is one of three corporate branches, with home offices in Meridian.
