February 24, 2014 -- The Leland Chamber of Commerce will host its annual member banquet on Thursday, February 27, 2014. The event will be held at the Buster Morlino Community Center in Leland, and will begin with a Business Showcase at 5:30pm.
The evening’s keynote speaker will be Malcolm White, Mississippi Development Authority’s Tourism Director. Mr. White is responsible for the overall management of the development and implementation of plans that will create economic growth and opportunities for Mississippi through tourism.
The event will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Leland’s Christmas on Deer Creek, a unique holiday festival that began in 1964. Local historian Daryl Lewis will present a brief history of the celebration during the banquet.
The Leland Chamber of Commerce and the City of Leland will also use the occasion to distribute their annual awards. The Chamber will honor three citizens of the region who have demonstrated outstanding community service, and the City of Leland will name Policeman of the Year and Educator of the Year.
